So here we are at CES 2014, an event that draws all types of people from around the world to gather in in one place to celebrate consumer electronic products. The thing is CES replaced COMDEX, which in the past was the show for PC hardware, but now the show has fleshed out more and covers every type of electronics including the PC.
This show is also spread out among all the high-end hotels along Las Vegas Blvd, otherwise known as “The Strip” as many manufactures and vendors have stepped away from the convention center in favor of a suite and that is where today’s story takes us.
The Venetian Hotel is one of the largest and classiest you can get and our friends at ADATA have a few new products to show off at this years show. One thing that is very new and interesting is that ADATA is expanding into a lighting business as well as PC peripherals and we got to see a few pretty interesting items in their suite.
This is a very new aspect for these folks and more products are said to come as 2014 grows in age so look for more this Q2. The usual suspects of SSD and Flash products were on display as well, but the really big news in that area is their move to use the new LSI (Next Generation Form Factor) NGFF or M.2 technology that propels speeds into the 1800 MB/s territory.
ADATA will be releasing a new line of PCIe SSDs that feature the use of this new LSI technology and driven though currently we will not see capacities like the new 2TB SX 930 SSD that tops out at about 500 MB/s, but still having that kind of speed is not half bad either. There were also a few new items in their charge station area including the new CS700 that offers wireless charging anywhere you can find a power outlet and with products like the PV100 power bank you can charge your phone anywhere at anytime. Another very cool product was a tiny new USB product that is barely larger than my fingernail yet contains its own controller and memory all in this very small package.
The new fingernail size SSD will make its debut this summer in various tablets and other portable media and can contain up to 128GBs of storage making it the most portable SSD device we have seen yet. That is what we saw today folks and down below we have a video of some of the things we saw with more coming later. We also happened to run into Bob from Think computers and we did a nice video with him about some of ADATA’s latest XPG memory color options so check it out and give us your opinion on what colors you would choose.
