The TRON arrives

So after a near death experience at the hands of fate and Murphy’s Law, the TRON system is finally finished and man is this system looking absolutely stellar in every way from top to bottom.

Anthony Reynolds our in house Tech Man and system modder took a lot of time and effort to get this system out the door and into my hot hands as I really have been anticipating this build and seeing it to its conclusion, which is now upon us.

You can clearly see that the system came out simple awesome and we are glad to be able to finally show it off to you with a relaxing sigh of relief. Whew, we made it yeah baby! Now lets talk about all the various parts and work that went into the making of the “TRON” system.

Although AMD is making the headlines with news regarding their so-called Titan killer, in a weird twist of events NVIDIA turned around and released information about their possible R9 290X Killer, the all-new GTX 780 Ti.

It seems kind of crazy that as AMD tries to get everyone to believe that they have the world’s fastest single GPU video card it is turning out to really be a lot of hot air and hype as well as not being the card it was rumored to be. Scores have already surfaced showing the R9 290X to be just a tad bit faster than a standard GTX 780 and in no way beating a Titan.

Looking at the leaked GPU-Z shot, GeForce GTX 780 Ti features GK110 silicon equipped with 2496 CUDA Cores, 208 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-780-Ti-GPU-Z-Shot-_1

It comes with 3 GB GDDR5 memory spread across a 384-bit memory interface resulting in 288.4 GB/s memory bandwidth. There have been rumors that the GeForce GTX 780 Ti will feature 6 GB GDDR5 memory and a 512-bit memory interface in-order to counter AMD’s Radeon R9 290X at 4K resolution. I think NVIDIA is just sitting back and watching things as they unfold and just reacting to whatever happens, as they seem to be very calm cool and collective about everything right now.

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 12.02.23 PM

In the GPU-Z shot you can see the clock speeds of the GPU have been revealed. The GK110 GPU is clocked at 902 MHz with GPU Boost up to 954 MHz while the memory is clocked at 1502 MHz or 6 GHz effectively. When compared with GTX 780, the upcoming GTX 780 Ti has tiny bits of improvement in terms of specifications. Below is a table, which shows the comparison between GeForce GTX 780, GTX 780 Ti and GTX TITAN. AMD is most likely really pissed off right now as this was the quickest right hook they have ever received from NVIDIA who did not have to do really anything to put them back into the number 2 slot. Like always any pre-release screen shots should be taken with a grain of salt, but the tome is coming really soon when all will be unleashed and revealed to the world. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow. So what are your thoughts on this information regarding the new GTX 780 Ti is this good news, or just more infighting between the giants?

Although the official launch is still days away a few sites like I knew would have started revealing test scores of AMD’s all new R9 290X video card. Not every test it seems has been approved or condoned by AMD, but someone somewhere must have let out the stop gates as scores from at least 2 major games has surfaced showing how the card performs against a GTX 780, mind you this is not a Titan comparison, but a GTX 780.

NVIDIA just announced their own new GTX 780Ti in Canada earlier today and that might be why AMD is loosening up on NDA restraints and allowing some scores to be shown. AMD was very specific that the only numbers it’s approving come from BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider. We’re only able to show you R9 290X compared to the GTX780, and only at 3840×2160, but Toms Hardware ran the tests in their lab and this is what they have come up with thus far.

Bioshock Tomb Raider

If these benchmarks prove to be the real deal then we can see that so far the R9 290X beats the GTX780, but to me that is just really showing AMD with a pretty weak as they spread the rumor of the so called “Titan Killer” and its just beating a GTX780 by a small margin. This may not be a bad thing in the long haul though as AMD has ample time to speculate price points and if they can bring to the table a card that costs $599.99 then it will be a winner, if the card is priced at almost the exact price range some AMD fans will flock to it like moths to a flame, but for those highly anticipating something from AMD that shreds a Titan, I think they may be a bit disappointed. We will have our cards very soon and begin our own testing so until then thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow.  Lets see how you all feel in our mini poll below.

From what you have seen so far on the R9 290X what are your thoughts?

Last week we reviewed AMD’s latest entry into the video card market, their new R9 280X and this week, we’re back with two Crossfire performance results and benchmarks.

For this set of tests we paired Gigabyte’s Windforce OC edition with MSI’s Twin Frozr Gaming edition R9 280X and manually set both cards to identical clock speeds.

We charted some pretty decent scaling results. Not everything was huge but overall, there were some nice performance boosts between the two cards. As Tek Syndicate noted in his testing, Crossfire frame times have improved from how terrible they use to be but still aren’t perfect, so take that into consideration when looking at the benchmarks. Enjoy!

Lookout gamers here it comes the next big weapon from NVIDIA is about to see the light of day. NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced that the new GTX 780 Ti will be hitting the shelves in November.

This is actually a bit weird as Jen Hsun is the big cheese and for he himself to make the announcement to me sends waves of information. Clearly NVIDIA is starting to see AMD as a bigger threat than in previous years and although he did not go into great detail about the specs and such its obvious they do not want AMD taking their lions share of the market.

This card is most likely going to be targeted at AMD’s soon to be released R9 290X card that is rumored to be the Titan killer, but NVIDIA is a very competitive company and you can bet dollars to donuts that they will remain that way. The new GTX 780 Ti should start to surface soon as reviewers from around the globe get their cards and start to test them.

It is almost inevitable that someone will break NDA and make a post sooner to the dismay to writers on an NDA, but that just seems to be the nature of the beast. NVIDIA wants to maintain your loyalty and support and I am sure we will se price drops and new cards as needed to keep them in the game. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow. Let’s see how much anticipation there is for this card in a mini poll down below. Happy Friday everyone!!!

The R9 280X has Landed

Okay so where does one take you on a review trip, when most everybody knows that what you are reviewing is a rebranded product? I will try my best to bring something fresh to the table.

AMD has recently unveiled and unleashed their new R9 and R7 video cards to a very expectant market as AMD has lagged a bit this year when it come to releasing new products. We already did a review where we talk about the feature set of the new R9 280X and if you missed that you can read about it here.

In an effort not to just repeat myself like a automated machine I will try and keep this review as straightforward as possible and stick with the facts about what sets the Gigabyte Windforce OC Version apart from its peers.

9014_big

Some of those things are quite obvious from just a quick glance as the card offers aftermarket cooling and an overclocked card right out of the box, and in fact the Gigabyte model is actually one of the highest clocked cards you can buy already pushed for performance. For those familiar with Gigabyte’s Windforce cooling solution you will see more of the same with the R9 280X. Lets dig a bit deeper and see what AMD and Gigabyte have come up with.

AMD jumps back in the gaming ring.

It’s that time again. Time for some new blood to be put into the video card market and this time it’s AMD’s turn at the wheel. The hype surrounding the new R9 and R7 series video cards will now be put to rest as the actual testing results get in on all the new cards.

We take a look today at the MSI Twin Frozr Gaming Edition video card that is priced at $299.99 and aimed to compete with the GTX 760-770 cards from NVIDIA. The new R9 280X is a mid level gaming solution that is not the Titan killer that many were expecting, but still something from AMD that will help lower the pricing of cards all around.

JH6A0990

Many of you have already surfed the net and have seen that the new R9 280X shares many things in common with the HD 7970GHz Edition video cards and that basically it is a rebranded card with a few new technical twists. AMD is planning on having their next level of card up the R9 290X be the so-called Titan killer, but for those wanting to save money and still get a solid card I think the R9 280X will find a nice home in todays market. AMD really wants to get your cash and even though many things have remained the same lets see what is different and how this card stacks up against the competition.

Officially we cannot show you any performance results or in depth technical specs until the NDA lifts on partner cards, but we are still bring you folks and unboxing of one of the latest AMD R9-Series cards the new MSI Twin-Frozr Gaming Edition 280X, which is based on a non-reference PCB.

The cooling elements of the card are what we are really showing off here with the unboxing and first look as its not under NDA, and is a patent of MSI, not AMD.

The card sizes in at 10.5″ x 5″ x 1.25″ and you can clearly see the 2-fans and aluminum heat-fins below them. Like most cards it is a 2-slot solution and has dual CrossFire connections located at the top of the card for using multiple cards in a CrossFireX configuration.

MSI has used a black PCB, which seems to be the favorite of the people, as it looks good in any build and can go with any color scheme. MSI continues to use their proprietary “AfterBurner” software to monitor and overclock your card and that software comes on the disc included in your retail package.

If you are a fan of the Twin-Frozr series of cooling and are an AMD fan as well this card was made just for you, and it also matches the colors on their Gaming series AMD motherboard so you can get all matched up in your build for a total MSI themed system. This is all we can show you for today as we are we just total cock teasers here at Tech Of Tomorrow. As if, but honestly in order to maintain NDA we can only show you some minor specs and the what the card looks like, but don’t worry, stay tuned as everything that matters will avail itself in the light very shortly my friends. Thanks for reading and watching, see you back here on Tech Of Tomorrow shortly!

When it comes to influential 1st person shooters, especially those focused on single player, the one game that will always be mentioned is Half-Life 2. A game that many of us have waited for a sequel to year after year, with many fans coming up with the most insane theories about how or when it would launch nearing conspiracy theory levels of esotericism.

Well today is finally the day we can atleast say it’s officially happening SOME TIME, as NeoGAF has discovered trademark paperwork under Valve’s name for “Half-Life 3” that has been submitted in both English and French. While not super specific, the trade mark states it is for:

“Computer game software; Electronic game software; Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; video game software.”

hl3

With last weeks string of announcements including SteamOS and the Steam Machines, it makes sense that Valve would work on having an exclusive title to help give them a boost, and no Valve franchise is in bigger demand of a sequel. This of course doesn’t give us any for sure idea of when it will come out, or even how far development on it has gone (if any has been started in the first place), but at least now we can for sure say that Half-Life 3 is officially planned for release. Let us know your thoughts in the comments, whether this gets you super excited or if you’ve just given up after too many wishful years. As always, Thank you for reading Tech of Tomorrow.
